Buddy
I adopted Buddy from the Humane Society when he was 2 years old. Buddy is a short-hair tabby cat. When I was looking to adopt a kitty, Buddy certainly caught my attention! He meowed incessantly and couldn’t stop moving around the door of his cage. When I took him out of the cage, he clung to me and was very affectionate. During the car ride home, he burst out of the cardboard box the Humane Society gave to take him home in. It was then that I realized, Buddy makes for a great ‘car cat.’ He sat on my lap and looked out the window the rest of the ride home.
In his younger days, Buddy liked to chase my friends around the apartment and swat at their ankles. It always cracked us up. Buddy also stayed close to me when I spent many hours reading and studying for university. He would perch himself on one of my textbooks and doze off… this earned him the nickname “Study Buddy.”
Buddy moved with me from apartment to apartment throughout my twenties, riding along in the front seat of the trucks I borrowed to get the job done. He witnessed me throughout job and relationship changes and as I grew from young adult into the woman that I am today. He was my first and only pet, that I adopted on my own and took full responsibility for.
He was my little protector, staying close to me no matter what room I was in.
Buddy lived 17 years and he turns a heavenly 18 years this July 1, 2024.
I knew he was getting older and that his time would eventually come… but it still came far too soon.
The second room in our house, where he spent many of his final days here on Earth, resting on the queen-sized bed, will forever be known as “Buddy’s room.”
We’re still finding your fur and whiskers and nails throughout the house. Your little pile of toys are gathered by the patio door, where you liked to sit and look out into the backyard.
You will forever be missed, Buddy.
We love you.
